Keeping it Real

What Happens in Vegas…

Stays in Vegas. And thank heavens for that.

Because for the last eight days the husband has been in the the sin city – for giant tech conference.

Yawn.

Yeah, I’d rather not hear the sordid details about the next best thing in security platform innovation. Umm… if that’s even a thing.

Two things the man did apprise me of:

1) He earned his fitbit  “marathon badge,” thanks to walking 25 miles in his first four days there.

Whatever.

My fitbit doesn’t count stairs climbed as “steps” – therefore completely ignoring potential miles spent hoofin’ it down to the kitchen at 11 pm for emergency chocolate consumption.

and

2) He walked past Ashton Kutcher in the lobby of the Venetian (where my dearest was roughing it out for seven nights while I slept on a mattress on the floor of the kids’ room.)

That just makes my life seem extra special. So thank you, husband. Thank you.

But did I let these snippets from the Lifestyles of the Not-So-Rich and Geeky get me down?

I would say not.

I made up for my lackluster life with this sparkly number.

Perfect for wet, squelchy Oregon winters, right?

I love, love them. The fact that I have absolutely nowhere to wear them makes me love them more.

Of course, hubby dearest left the very day I blogged about loving every precious moment with my little ones. Turns out, one week without the husband is a LOT of moments.

My conclusions from my one week as a “single” mom:

1) When your husband is in Vegas, you get on your knees a whole lot. I crammed Scripture like I had the memory of Dustin Hoffman on Rain Man.

2) Sometimes God uses a pair of decidedly impractical shoes to make a girl insanely happy

3) When you pray to be a better parent, God doesn’t forget. In fact, He might give you opportunities to practice what you preach/ blog quicker than you can say ‘Amen.’

The man will be here in a few hours. Homemade biriyani, caramels and a clogged toilet await him.

(You’re welcome, huberoo. I know you missed the real world.)

Leaving you with a verse which turned out to be my favorite this week for some odd reason: I will lie down and sleep in peace for you, O Lord, make me dwell in safety. Psalm 4:8
