Keeping it Real

A Prayer As 2022 Winds Down

Father God,
As I look back on the last year, I thank you for your steadfastness.
You have been unchanging through all the upheavals. You have been my Emmanuel even through times when I’ve felt empty. You have been faithful despite all my failures.
While my words are far from enough, I simply offer up my thanks because, through it all, you have been good.
Without your presence and without your purpose, the year would have rushed by in a meaningless blur of activity. I praise you for growing me in ways that may be imperceptible to the world but that you see and applaud even as you look at me and say, “That’s my girl.” Thank you for teaching me contentment even in the ordinary. Thank you for refining me and for refusing to give up on me.
Father, as I stand at the brink of a new year, there’s so much I want to do, areas where I need to change, places I want to go, and dreams I want to fulfill. But I don’t want to rush ahead of you. And I don’t want to stay placid when you tell me to go.
So Father would you lead me? Would you give me the courage to put one foot in front of another even when I have no ideas what’s next?
Father, open the doors through which you want me to walk and shut those paths which diminish the life you have for me. Draw me closer, Lord, because in intimacy with you I find my identity, in partnership with you I find my purpose, and in that secret place with you, I find my significance.
Lord, I don’t know what lies ahead, but I thank you that you do. I’m grateful that I get to say that my life is in your hands and that all things are working for good.
In Jesus name,
Amen
